What does it do?
OpenScape Xpert is a pure IP multi-line communication system in which the user monitors many lines at once and speaks with a single touch. Traders, dispatchers and operators handle direct lines, always-open broadcast lines (hoot-n-holler), internal and external calls and radio channels from one terminal. Up to 600 lines can be configured per user. The current release is V8.2.
At the core of the system is the Multi-Line Controller (MLC) softswitch, running on Linux (Ubuntu). The MLC connects to the PBX as a SIP subscriber, so existing PBXs such as OpenScape 4000 and OpenScape Voice are kept. Administration runs on System Manager (Windows Server). Users work on the OpenStage Xpert 6010p touchscreen turret, the new Mitel Xpert 6020p turret, or the Xpert Client on a PC.
For continuous operation, the MLC is installed in a virtual environment with VMware HA or Fault Tolerance; with Fault Tolerance the switchover takes half a second and the call is not interrupted. All lines and speaker channels are passed to external recording systems via SIPREC.
Who is it for?
Bank treasury units and brokerages; equities, bonds, FX and commodities. Direct lines to counterparties, one-touch order lines and recording of all calls.
Control centers monitoring electricity, gas, oil and water infrastructure; energy trading desks. Direct lines to field teams, power plants and neighbouring control centers.
Railway, metro and public transport dispatch centers. Radio, telephone and internal broadcast on the same screen.
Emergency call and coordination centers, municipal and hospital operations centers. Coordination between teams with line prioritization and shared lines.
Operations and coordination centers. Simultaneous broadcast to several units and always-open coordination lines.

Frequently asked questions
What is a trader turret?
A turret is a multi-line terminal on which traders and dispatchers monitor many lines at once and speak with a single touch. Direct lines, always-open broadcast lines and normal calls appear on the same screen; with several handsets and speakers, several conversations can be followed at the same time. OpenScape Xpert uses the OpenStage Xpert 6010p and Mitel Xpert 6020p as turrets.
What is hoot-n-holler?
Hoot-n-holler is an always-open broadcast line within a group of users: everyone in the group hears whoever speaks over a speaker. It is used for price and news flow on trading desks and for coordination in control centers. In OpenScape Xpert these lines are configured as Continuous Lines (ARD / MRD); during a broadcast an incoming call can be answered, added to the broadcast or the broadcast can be cut.
Which PBXs does OpenScape Xpert work with?
Xpert's softswitch, the MLC, connects to the PBX as a SIP subscriber. Supported operation modes include OpenScape 4000, OpenScape Voice, Cisco UCM and generic SIP; OpenScape 4000 V8 R2, V10 R1 and V11 R0 have been tested. OpenScape Business is not listed as a compatible PBX in the Xpert documentation.
How are calls recorded?
Xpert does not record by itself; it passes the audio of lines, handsets and speaker channels to an external recording system. The recommended interface is encrypted SIPREC, and the same stream can be sent to several recorders. The compatibility list includes recording systems such as ASC Neo, NICE and Verint.
What happens if the system fails?
When the MLC is installed with VMware HA, switchover takes a few minutes; with VMware Fault Tolerance it takes half a second and the call is not interrupted. System Manager can be installed as a geographically separated cluster. With free seating, users continue at another position with their own profile.
Can radio and telephone be used on the same screen in a dispatch center?
Yes. Xpert integrates with SmartPTT, iNemSoft ClassOne and Reichert radio systems, and radio channels appear on the same terminal as telephone lines. Which radio system is used with which license and approval is decided during the site survey against the compatibility list.
