What does it do?
OpenScape 4000 is Mitel's (formerly Unify) hybrid TDM + IP communications platform for large organizations and the successor of HiPath 4000. It scales to 12,000 subscribers in a single system and 100,000 in a network. IP, digital and analog phones as well as DECT and WLAN handsets share one numbering plan.
The system runs on SUSE Linux. Central call control runs on an OpenScape EcoServer or in a virtual environment (VMware, Proxmox/KVM, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix). Wired endpoints in the main building connect to AP3700 shelves. Remote buildings and branches are added over IP as distributed access points (IPDA): Enterprise Gateway, EcoBranch or the software-based SoftGate. Voice between sites flows directly over IP.
Where the system must not stop, call control is installed as Duplex: if one server fails, its partner takes over and established calls are not dropped. The two servers can be placed in different buildings or campuses (Separated Duplex). The current software release is V11.
Who is it for and at what scale?
Multi-block campus, many wired endpoints, DECT mobility and continuous operation. One system with Duplex call control and access points distributed across the blocks.
Headquarters and regional offices in one numbering plan. Branches connect over IP; if the WAN fails, the branch keeps working locally.
Control room, field and administrative buildings. Analog and digital endpoints plus DECT, integrated with alarm servers and dispatcher systems.
Universities, airports, large industrial zone administrations. Call control distributed across two data centers with geographically separated Duplex.
An existing HiPath 4000 system is moved to OpenScape 4000 with an upgrade license. Compatible boards and phones can be kept.
Key features
- 12,000 subscribers per system, 100,000 in a network; 15 local AP3700 shelves and 83 IP-distributed access points
- Duplex: hot-standby for call control, warm-standby for applications and management; established calls survive a server switchover
- Separated Duplex: the two servers in different locations; Disaster Recovery as an additional option
- Branch survivability: during a WAN outage the branch keeps working with APE and Survivable SoftGate; voice can be carried over the PSTN
- Endpoints: HFA and SIP IP phones, digital (UP0/E), analog, ISDN; DECT via Cordless Enterprise and Cordless IP; WL4 WLAN phone
- Integrated CSTA (XML and ASN.1), up to 32 CTI links, for contact center, alarm server and dispatcher applications
- Networking: common network with OpenScape Business and OpenScape Voice over SIP-Q; native SIP, CorNet-NQ, QSIG, IPv6; Microsoft Teams Direct Routing: native SIP trunk + SBC (OpenScape SBC or AudioCodes)
- OpenScape SBC runs as a container on EcoServer / EcoBranch / Enterprise Gateway
- Security and management: TLS/SRTP and PKI; Assistant for a single system, Manager for the network, DLS for device management
- Licensing: platform + Standard (TDM, analog, DECT) or Flex (all devices including IP); no separate license needed for trunks

Migrating from HiPath 4000
License and software
An OpenScape 4000 upgrade license exists for HiPath 4000 V2 and later. On HiPath 4000 V6/V7 systems the existing PBX database (RMX REGEN) is converted to the new release with PC DACON and restored on the new system; the system is not built from scratch. For older releases the migration path is decided during the site survey.
Hardware
AP3300 and AP3700 IP shelves are still supported in V11 but are no longer sold new. With Enterprise Gateway, existing subscriber boards can be reused. The STMI2 board is not supported and is replaced by STMIX or STMIY. Which boards stay is decided during the site survey against the supported hardware list.
Phones
optiPoint 400 series, 500 and 600, OpenStage HFA and TDM phones and the CP families are supported on OpenScape 4000; replacing them is not required for the migration. For new purchases we recommend CP G2 (CP110–CP710) on IP, CP205T / CP405T on digital lines and SL7 and M3 for wireless.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy OpenScape 4000?
OpenScape 4000 is sold and installed through Mitel's authorized partners. As a Mitel Silver Partner, Promark quotes, installs and maintains projects across Türkiye and in Turkmenistan. Send the number of subscribers, the sites and your current PBX by WhatsApp or phone; the BOM and quote come back within 24–48 hours.
How do I migrate from HiPath 4000 to OpenScape 4000?
HiPath 4000 V2 and later move to OpenScape 4000 with an upgrade license. On V6/V7 systems the existing PBX database is converted to the new release with PC DACON and restored; the system is not built from scratch. For older releases the migration path is decided during the site survey. STMI2 boards are replaced with STMIX or STMIY; compatible boards and optiPoint, OpenStage and CP phones can be kept. The supported hardware list is checked during the site survey.
How many subscribers does OpenScape 4000 support?
Up to 12,000 in a single system and 100,000 in a network. The host takes 15 local AP3700 shelves and 83 IP-distributed access points. Enterprise Gateway carries 120 channels in total across two shelves; EcoBranch carries 8 OpenScape Access modules.
Does OpenScape 4000 run on a virtual server?
Yes. Besides OpenScape EcoServer and EcoBranch hardware, V11 can be installed on VMware, Proxmox/KVM, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix. In a virtual installation only IP access points (Enterprise Gateway, EcoBranch, SoftGate) connect to the host; local AP3700 shelves cannot be attached directly.
What is Duplex and a geo-redundant phone system?
In Duplex, call control runs on two servers: if one fails, the other takes over and established calls are not dropped. In Separated Duplex the two servers sit in different buildings or campuses. This requires both sites in the same L2 network, at least 1 Gbit/s bandwidth and under 10 ms round-trip time between them, and a separate quorum node.
Should I choose OpenScape 4000 or OpenScape Business?
OpenScape Business is enough for up to 500 users on one site, 1,500 in a virtual installation and 2,000 in total across a network. OpenScape 4000 is considered when you need more subscribers, Duplex redundancy or many branches managed from one center. Both systems can also work in the same network over SIP-Q. After the site survey we compare both options in a BOM.
Send us the number of subscribers, the sites, your current PBX and boards, redundancy needs and trunk type by WhatsApp. We return a BOM and quote within 24–48 hours. Across Türkiye and in Turkmenistan.
